Facebook has transformed from being a fresh new website that all the cool kids were a part of to a place that everyone and them mom is a member. At last count (July 2010), they were at somewhere around 500million users. This ubiquity brings about a very interesting opportunity.
The people that you want to connect with are likely members so if you wanted to build a meaningful relationship with someone who could be of strategic importance to your business in the future or just someone you’d like to be friends with, Facebook can help facilitate that relationship.
However, as the saying goes, you can bring a horse to the water but you can’t make it drink. Similarly, technologies like Facebook can make it easier to connect but they won’t matter unless the person who you’re trying to build a relationship with is also interested in getting to know you. Building this mutual interest isn’t the most natural task for most people.
This is why I was delightfully surprised at how one Facebook user was using features inside Facebook to build a more meaning connection with people.
So what was this delightful approach? Using caricatures. Specifically, Constantine Gabor creates or has someone else create a caricature/cartoon of Andrew Warner doing andrew’s famous fist pump. If I were Andrew, I’d probably be flattered and curious about the person who has this neat idea.
